In April of 2011, my wife and I learned that Northampton's Pride & Joy was going out of business. The idea of Northampton without a pride store seemed incompatible with our community. We bought the business, determined to turn it around and make it successful.
Despite our high hopes for the store, we experienced a convergence of trends, which have brought us to an untenable juncture: dramatic decreases in rainbow product sales both locally and worldwide, combined with continuing increases in online shopping sales and the extremely high overhead of maintaining a physical location in downtown Northampton.
